Question by Kumar: Why are a lot of basketball fans ignorant?
Before I continue with this, I would like to let people know that I am not a Lebron fan or Kobe fan, I am just speaking the facts.
After reading this article, http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/blog/ball_dont_lie/post/The-top-10-players-of-the-2010-NBA-playoffs?urn=nba,242918
and reading the comments below it, I thought it was time to teach people something about basketball. First off, I read comments of people calling Lebron James all sorts of names including Lebrick, and loser, and etc… Other people posted comments stating things such as: Lebron James sucks and that he is sitting at home on his couch after leading his team off the court. He can’t even win and led his team to losing. And other stuff. (Note: no one said these exact words, but people said stuff similar to this.)
What part of Basketball do these ignorant people seem to understand? Why does it always have to be “Lebron leading the team”? Why not his team leading Lebron. Basketball is a team sport, without a good team, no one can win, not even a superstar. So why do people compare Kobe to Lebron. Thats like comparing chocolate to a telephone. Those two can’t be compared. Kobe has an excellent team that “HELPS” him be the player who he is. All people know is what they see, Kobe and the Lakers. How long ago has it been since we have watched Kobe play for another team? Why can’t people put Kobe in Lebron’s position. Lebrons team is only average. Inferior to the Lakers. But what if Lebron was on the Lakers, and Kobe was on the Cavs. Kobe and Lebron’s roles would switch. Lebron would be doing what Kobe does and Kobe would be called the King and Krazy, or Kloser, or something like that, sitting at home with a bag of potato chips watching the team that send him fishing. A players success depends on his team. We aren’t playing 1 v 1 games. Its 5 v 5, and this requires teamwork. Also, people need to take into account the fact that Kobe has much more experience than Lebron. If all these wannabe basketball fans compare Kobe to Lebron, they might as well compare Michael Jordan to Rajon Rondo. Im tired of typing, and I have a lot more to say about the silly, immature Lebron vs Kobe debate. But why can’t these fans actually utilize their brains and think outside the Kobe/Lakers? Most of the people are die-hard kobe fans. And most of these fans are just followers who live in LA or California saying, “Hey look, Im a Laker fan cause i live in California. Woohoo go lakers.” Whenever I meet people like this, I tell them, you have a choice. No one is forcing you to be a laker fan just cause you live in LA. People need to stop becoming fans because of where they live. People need to start becoming fans because they like the team, not because the best basketball player is on that team. All these people give Basketball and the NBA a bad name.
So why are so many basketball fans ignorant?
I realized ignorant is a harsh word, and another person who replied pointed this out. I just want to say I don’t mean to use it in a harsh way. I meant it to be used as a word to describe NBA fans who only view things from their team’s perspectives.

I agree 100%. I also read that article a few hours ago.
I naturally don’t hate comparing players… it’s just one of the aspects of competitive sports. When it comes to basketball, though, it gets weird.
Everybody understands that Kobe has a better team… BUT what most people here don’t understand is there is a difference between a “good” team and a “playoff” team. For example, Derek Fisher was one of he worst PGs in the season but look at him now. Gasol is one of the most consistent players and he didn’t lose it in the playoffs.
Not only team mates, but coaching. Phil Jackson knows match ups pretty good, plus he ALSO PLAYS his mind games. And people just think you can do miracles every time for the team and neglect the fact that basketball is TRULY a team sport.

@Just another Cano: “Kobe has the will and desire to get his team over the hump and to win at all cost, LeBron does not.”
How exactly?
